Character Name: Kaiisteron, Fourth Prince of the Underearth, called Witch King
Canon: The Rising World series
Canon Point: In Queen Demon, after speaking with Bashat and Dahin in Benais-arik.
Age: Unknown, probably over 100.
History: Here
Is this character an AU? What type?: NA
AU History: NA
Personality: Kai describes himself at one point as 'made entirely of razor blades,' which is not an inaccurate description. He has been hurt a lot in his past and still hurts by it, and therefore tends to put up a very prickly demeanor when people first meet him. Naturally, this is a bit of a front; prickly people do not declare scared children their friend and offer to hold their hand to try and get them to feel better. Kai is very much a defender of the innocent even though he would never call himself that and does his best to protect anyone under his care, whether he likes them or not. (If he doesn't like them and they get involved and hurt, well, that's their fault.)

That being said, he is definitely not a peaceful person. Kai's first instinct to solve any problem is violence, because frankly that's what he feels he's best at. (He is pretty good at it.) Even if he often chooses not to take that route, it's quite often his first thought. This is/isn't aided by the fact that most of the Arike afraid of a demon's ability to steal life through touch, so around a lot of people all he has to do is say he's a demon and that's enough to scare the hell out of them. He's very confident in his abilities and doesn't back down from situations that are difficult, and is more than used to fighting through something that should be considered a lost cause. He will throw himself at a problem until it is fixed, whatever that means.

Due to his past traumas, Kai is not a very trusting person. Or, more accurately, he tries not to be. On the surface he succeeds; he's very cagey with information with people he doesn't know, he maintains his 'big scary demon posturing' whenever possible, but unfortunately he has a little bit too much hope inside of him to truly squash it. He hopes Bashat didn't betray him, until it becomes all but obvious. He hopes Ramad didn't know about it, until it becomes clear that he did. He wants to believe in people even though he's had it proven that he shouldn't in a lot of cases. Basically, he is a Good Boy with some damage.

Powers and Abilities: Kai's abilities fall into three main categories: demon abilities, expositor intentions, and witch cantrips.

Demon Abilities: Able to drain life through physical touch (can be just a little or enough to entirely desiccate a body) and unkillable, able to heal any wounds. He can also exert his will outward to make people act as he wants, though it is very difficult and can only be done for short periods. Can be identified easily as a demon due to his black eyes.

Expositor Intentions: Able to cast intentions, which are a type of spell within the universe that can be molded for many purposes. Normal expositors use the Well of Hierarchs or the pain of others; Kai uses his own pain as fuel for the magic, which does mean he will stab himself in order to make a spell work.

Witch Cantrips: Basic cantrips, such as summoning imps for small tasks (lighting up a room, etc.). He is also capable of creating something called a 'heart pearl,' which can be swallowed by someone to allow him to telepathically communicate with them; it could also be used to exert his will over others so it requires a lot of trust.

Inventory: His clothes, a black embroidered veil that covers his eyes, and a pocket knife

Sample: Here.

When presented with a choice, is the character more likely to stick with tried and true methods? Or make something new up on the fly? Kai will often start with "tried and true" if he can think of one that is applicable to the situation, but he is an adaptable thinker and will switch tact to trying whatever he can think of when necessary.
What is more important to your character, preserving the past or forging a future? Kai definitely tends to focus more on the past, on honoring the sacrifices and work put in by so many (or one person in particular) and seeing their legacy through. He is also very annoyed by people not learning the lessons of the past or thinking that it's not important to them.
How does your character influence their own story? What about the stories of others? Most of Kai's motivations through the various arcs of his story are trying to return to a status-quo, or at least something more comfortable than whatever horrible thing is currently happening. He isn't resistant to change exactly so much as he strives to trying to and have some sort of peaceful balance and tends to draw on memories of the past to shape what his idea of a future looks like.

Character Name: Viktor
Canon: Arcane
Canon Point: post season 1
Age: 33
History: here

Is this character an AU? What type?: OU
Personality: As a child, he was confident that he understood the ethics of what was good and what was bad. So when Singed said, "I thought you would understand," we see child Viktor walk out on Singed for what he deemed to be unethical experiments. As he got older, he states that he had nothing, no name, and no patron to support him; he just believed in himself. Viktor likes to think of himself also as a moral man, but over the years has sacrificed that morality more often than he realizes. Once he meets Jayce, who had such an impact on his life, he seems to fade more into the background and looks to prefer that to being in the spotlight. But despite that, he is repeatedly frustrated with Jayce because they aren't using their advances in hextech to help all of humanity, which means that though he doesn't like the spotlight, he is very committed to helping people regardless of whether they are from the undercity or the wealthier parts of Piltover. He also returns to Singed when he is older, once he is given a terminal diagnosis, and says, "I understand now." Later, we see that he is willing to run unsafe experiments on himself, but when someone else ends up paying the ultimate price for his experiments, he is horrified and wracked with guilt over it, and then asks that Jayce destroy the hexcore because Viktor can't. It's difficult to tell if he's physically unable because the hexcore is controlling him telepathically, or if he can't because he has been able to change his body so much because of the hexcore. It may be a 'one ring' situation in that it's probably a bit of both. That has really summed up Viktor's personality; he is willing to go from not sleeping and otherwise punishing his own body to being willing to take extreme risks, but when someone else is hurt by what he is doing, he immediately feels extreme guilt over it.

Powers and Abilities: Once season 2 of Arcane came out, we saw Viktor displaying extensive magical abilities to heal the physical bodies of others, but also to create a hivemind while he did so. While this version of Viktor from season 1 can not do that, he has been in the process of mutating himself, and I would like for him to eventually learn how to use his magic to feel an echo of what someone he uses his magic on is feeling. That way, he isn't taking over their mind but helping to encourage the physical body of someone else to heal faster than it would naturally. I want this process to take a toll on Viktor's astral self, or soul, if you will, so he can't use it all the time.

Inventory: First would be the hard corset-like spinal brace worn under his clothes, and other than that, the crutch that he needs to use in order to walk is the only other belongings he has.

Sample: TL on the TDM

When presented with a choice, is the character more likely to stick with tried and true methods? Or make something new up on the fly? Make things up on the fly
What is more important to your character, preserving the past or forging a future? Forging a new future
How does your character influence their own story? What about the stories of others? Viktor is hugely influential on his own story as one of the 2 creators of hextech, and because there is no one at all in the whole of his world (Runeterra) that is not somehow affected by hextech he has been pivotal to so many stories. However, he is not given the same credit as his partner, Jayce Talis, often is. There are many reasons for that, from his lower-class background to the fact that he actively stays out of the spotlight.

Are you alright with your character’s canon being used as a Recommended Reading?: Since Arcane is supposed to be only part of a League of Legends multiverse, it can certainly be required reading, but it is a part of a greater whole.

Are you over 18? Yes
Do you have any other characters in game?: NA
Who invited you?: NA

Character Name: Yuri Han
Canon: Original
Canon Point: He's currently working on his senior thesis and getting close to graduation
Age: 24

History: When Yuri was seven years old, his baby sister was born. When she reached seven, she was diagnosed with an aggressive form of leukemia that she was able to fight for only a year. At fifteen, he lost his baby sister and frankly, with her, his parents. They became withdrawn and combative, and at eighteen Yuri left the house.

He took some time off between high school and starting college to give himself time to save up some money, but between academic scholarships and the gig he got stripping, he was able to get himself into school where he's majoring in biology with plans for a PhD in experimental medicine--a dream inspired by the loss of his sister.

Yuri has a tight-knit friend group, more of a family to him than his own, many of whom are... well. Magical. He, himself, is not, but his boyfriend Finn is. They're currently working out how to balance out their normal lives with Finn's magical one and Yuri's intense schooling.

Is this character an AU? What type?: NA

Personality: On the surface, Yuri is what one might like to call an out and loud about it gay. His hair is pink, his clothes are small, he calls people petnames when he can get away with. There's no need for any sort of "I wonder if he's, y'know" guessing about him. It can be intimidating to some, annoying to others, but to the people who matter he's just... him.

But that's the surface.

Behind closed doors, away from prying eyes and strangers who love labels, Yuri is still very proud of who he is. However, with it comes an unexpected maturity. No one would be able to guess that Yuri is as studious as he is. If he isn't at work or with his boyfriend, he can be found in the library nursing an unhealthily sized cold brew to get him through writing whatever paper it is he's working on now. He likes to be cozy, oversized sweaters and all.

Yuri is also fiercely protective of those he loves. He's the type of friend who will insist that you speak up for yourself, even for something as small as they left pickles on your sandwich when you said you didn't want any. He'll speak up for those who can't, or won't, and is always just as happy to support a friend from the sidelines if that's what they need him to do instead. "Do you want a solution, or do you want me to just listen?"

(He is also hopelessly devoted to his boyfriend. It's disgusting (affectionate).)

Powers and Abilities: Nothing supernatural, he's just very smart, especially in the field of biology/medicine.

Inventory: His clothes, phone, backpack of study materials including his laptop (he was on his way to his own library, thanks team), pink Stanley definitely filled with water and not iced coffee.

Sample: Here!

When presented with a choice, is the character more likely to stick with tried and true methods? Or make something new up on the fly? Make up something new on the fly. He's going into experimental medicine for a reason, and you can't get anywhere if you just do the same thing over and over again and expect different results. Sometimes you have to spice things up a bit. It makes life more interesting.

What is more important to your character, preserving the past or forging a future? Forging a future. It's nice to be able to build on what our history has taught us, but the only way to get anywhere in the world is to keep looking forward and doing what you need to do to shape a world you want to live in.

How does your character influence their own story? What about the stories of others? Yuri's always picked his own paths, never satisfied to wait for someone else to decide something for him. He would hate for his story to be written by someone else. As for others, he likes to think of himself as a positive force in their lives. If he can be remembered as someone who encouraged a person to put themselves first, he'll consider that a success.

Are you alright with your character’s canon being used as a Recommended Reading?: Sure! As he's an OC, though, I'd be more than happy to give more information on the world he's in if it's wanted!

Revision

[personal profile] scienceofthearcane 2025-10-25 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
From the first night that he meets Jayce, he sees in the hextech they invented together a way he would be able to help those in the undercity, with a new energy source unlike anything that Piltover has ever seen. As he says then "scientists seek discoveries, ways to make the world a better place." He has dreams of finding ways to help purify the air, water, and soil of the undercity (also called Zaun later in the series) in season 1, the water has become poisoned with runoff from the mines, and that led to the soil being likewise polluted. The air itself can be deadly, and "The Grey" is a smog created by the factories and mining in Zaun, and from dangerous chemical explosions and industrial accidents. It causes respiratory issues, contaminates the air, and has either mutated people over time or killed them as their bodies break down.

As Viktor's disease progresses, he starts to have visions whenever his blood first gets mixed with hextech because he was coughing up blood while inside the hex gates. After he is given a terminal prognosis, he becomes obsessed with the idea that he must make enough impact on the world through what he invents in order to be remembered. To that end, he first creates the Hex core and sees that it reacts to his own blood or other organic matter. He then starts experimenting on himself by mixing the street drug Shimmer with his own blood so that he would be able to survive mutating himself while getting the hex core to react to the organic matter or the blood inside his own body.

It's only in season two of the series that he and Jayce are able to destroy the Hex Core and Hex Gates. But that part is not yet relevant to the character that I want to app.
